Please accept my heartfelt thanks for one of the most enlightening tours I have ever taken - the Gullah Tour. It was a thrill for my three sisters and me. I have a graduate degree in Folklore and in all my travels, your tour is among the very best ever. Meeting and shaking hands with Phillip Simmons is an experience that I will always remember. And to have had the opportunity to visit Mr. Simmons' home where the iron gates are made was an overwhelming joy. Your fluency in the Gullah language is so impressive. You really made the trip enjoyable. On that same evening, my sisters and I had dinner at the Gullah Cuisine which you had mentioned on the tour. The food there was excellent!! Especially the Gullah rice!!! I recommend that particular restaurant to everyone who visits Charleston. The personnel was cordial and made us feel right at home. Frank and Charlotte Brown, the proprietors, really catered to us (and the other customers as well). WE SHALL RETURN!!!!!!!!!

"This is to let you know that your tour was the best of all the tours I took in Charleston. I thank you very much for guide. It was very educational. My main purpose was to know the Afro-American History and their actual roots. God bless you for such a noble cause. The other tours did not touch the Afro-American History."

"Let me express my appreciation in this small way for the wonderful tour you provided for the Lander University-Spartanburg Methodist College students last Saturday. Your presentation was informative and interesting and entertaining. The students thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a great deal about African-American history and culture. The time we spent in your company was the highlight of our weekend. Thank you very much."

"I regret that I am unable to open this letter with a saluatation in GULLAH -- but, then, that's my deficiency. First, let me try to re-identify myself. On June 19th, my wife, and I, along with my teen-age Granddaughter and another young lady from Philadelphia were the only four people on your 11:00 morning tour --fortunately for us. I say fortunately because with only four people my wife and I concluded that you gave us a "personalized" tour; you were, as the saying goes, "rev'd-up"; seemingly energized; really did-your-thing; and you gave what we consider a stellar presentation. S'matter of fact we considered it one of the few high points of our five day stay in South Carolina."

"On behalf of the Kenyon students, Peter Rutkoff, & myself, thank you for the wonder tour you gave us of Charleston. Even though I grew up in Charleston, I learned more from you than I did in a life time. The Gullah Tour is absolutely the best possible introduction to Charleston. You are terrific! And we all ate at Alice's and that was great too. Thank you so much. This summer, when my daughters come to visit their grandmother, we all hope to take your Gullah Tour."
- Will Scott, Kenyon College, Gambier, SC
"We pray that this letter finds you, your family and Mr. Simmons in good health and under God's Grace. We want you to know that we sincerely enjoyed your guided tour of the black Charleston that most tourists will never see. Your tour and Mr. Simmons was one of the most memorable moments of our vacation."
